In 1992 the Illinois State Bar Association via their Law Related Education And Resource Network (LEARN) founded the Illinois Institute for Dispute Resolution (IIDR) to support the development of conflict resolution education programs in Illinois schools.  IIDR quickly gained national recognition for providing quality professional development programs. By 1995, IIDR training programs attracted thousands of educators throughout the USA.  In 1997, IIDR evolved into the National Center for Conflict Resolution Education (NCCRE).

Today the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program fund a cooperative agreement with the Illinois State Bar Association to advance NCCRE training and technical assistance. Through this federal project, NCCRE promotes the development of conflict resolution education programs in schools, juvenile justice arenas and youth service organizations.

Donna Crawford, NCCRE Executive Director and Richard Bodine, NCCRE Training Director, co-authored several of the most widely used conflict resolution education training and implementation materials in the field. Over 78,000 copies of Conflict Resolution Education: A Guide to Implementing Programs in Schools, Youth-Serving Organizations, and Juvenile Justice Settings, authored by Crawford and Bodine were distributed by Department of Justice and the Department of Education since 1996.
